If you want to transfer a domain name from one registrar to another, you will have to go through several security procedures. One of them is getting a special EPP code from the present registrar – provided that you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the owner's email address and no one else can get it. You’ll have to give this code to the new domain registrar, or else they won’t be able to start the transfer procedure. The EPP codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of numbers or special symbols such as dots or commas, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy/paste the correct code. As an additional safety measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain name may be changed regularly. Some registrars refer to this code as a domain password, a domain secret or an Auth key as well.
