The Z File System, or ZFS, is an innovative file system that is far better than any other file system these days. It's extremely reliable and offers the absolute best performance for the hosting platforms that use it. What makes it special is that it compares the so-called checksum of all files on the hard disks which comprise a RAID array in real time and if any file is damaged, it is repaired right away. In simple terms, the very same site files are stored on two or more hard drives and if there is a problem with a file on one hard drive, a good copy is used from the other drive so as to restore that file. By comparison, none of the other widespread file systems features checksums. ZFS is also considerably faster and its performance isn't affected by the number of files stored on the web servers. The larger speeds also allow backups to be set up swifter and more frequently without affecting the efficiency of the system.
